Role: Industrial designer
Nordic skiing delivers a powerful effort, leg drive, core stability, and upper body strength in a rhythmic, aerobic motion. Gliding across snowy landscapes connects you to nature and terrain, but that access is limited by season, location, and equipment. Indoor ski machine simulate the movement, yet they often feel large and anchored to gym environments. There’s an opportunity to redefine the ski experience.
It replicates the mechanics of cross country skiing using an air resistance system with 10 intensity levels. The machine supports both simultaneous and alternating arm movements.

The design journey began with rapid 2D sketching to explore form, proportion, and user interaction. These initial concepts evolved through multiple 3D iterations, each refining ergonomics and mechanical efficiency. This iterative process allowed us to validate the shape from handle to footplate before physical prototyping.
The display module integrates a high brightness touchscreen for optimal viewing during dynamic motion. Below, two backlit buttons provide feedback for essential controls without requiring visual attention.

The Ligne interface navigation is built on a clear hierarchical structure designed to minimize cognitive load during high intensity intervals. The primary menu (Training, Sessions, Progress, Settings) prioritizes visual immersion and rapid mode recognition. This is supported by a persistent bottom navigation bar, ensuring fluid transitions between active performance (Workout) and post exercise data review (Achievements). This controlled redundancy allows users to switch from an action state to an analysis state without breaking their flow.
The Immersive Workout Experience screen is engineered as a streamlined cockpit. By integrating high altitude mountain vistas into the background, the interface reinforces the physiological connection between the Ligne technical movement and the real world environment of the sport. Essential metrics are in the periphery to keep the central field of view clear, while the resistance control is strategically placed on a vertical axis for intuitive adjustments of difficulty levels 1 to 10.

Our dual mount system adapts to any space. The floor standing configuration uses weighted stabilizers with non slip feet for freestanding use. For wall mounting, quick release levers detach the main column, revealing a slim wall bracket that secures to standard studs. Both solutions maintain perfect alignment of the pull mechanism and ensure identical workout experience.

Every component serves multiple functions the main column houses the resistance system and cable routing, the foot platform integrates stabilization and adjustable tilt mechanisms. Modular construction allows individual replacement of wear items without full disassembly. Electronics are consolidated in a single sealed unit with wireless firmware update capability, ensuring longevity and easy maintenance.

The footage speed dynamically matches your stroke rate, the environmental sounds respond to your intensity. Essential metrics appear as translucent overlays that fade during steady state effort and brighten during intervals. This creates cognitive flow you train with nature, not just toward numbers.
