SC 2023
Role: Industrial designer
This student project developed the SC Bluetooth Mouse through an iterative process to address hand fatigue during extended computer use. The work started with structured observations of users during prolonged sessions, documenting how they gripped devices and shifted positions over time. Common patterns included frequent grip adjustments, wrist elevation changes, and short breaks taken every 20-30 minutes due to accumulating discomfort in the wrist, palm, and fingers.
Initial analysis focused on standard flat profile mice, which position the wrist in a neutral plane but create pressure points where the hand meets the device edge. Hand measurements were taken across different grip styles (palm, claw, fingertip) to map contact areas and force distribution. The design direction examined organic reference forms, specifically leafs.
Form studies tested multiple profiles through physical models and 2D sketches, the final geometry positions the hand with a natural pronation angle, aligning the forearm more directly with the desk surface compared to flat mice.
